Built For Comfort | ETM-Hilary Kemp Show 45

The conversation continues from San Carlos Restaurant, as ETM and Hilary tackle both the emotional and the biological motivations behind "comfort food".

Built For Comfort

Edward T and Hilary continue their conversation about food from the fantastic San Carlos Restaurant. They take a look at the motivations for eating comfort food, both the emotional aspects and the biological aspects. Hilary informs Edward T that they are much more related than he realized.

Hilary presents a Science Minute discussing this craving/comfort phenomenon, and whilst sucking down some of San Carlos' fabulous flan desert, ETM presents a Media Minute, recommending HBO's presentation of "John Adams". He says this is not to be missed.

They close the show with Hilary's recommendation for San Carlos' famous margaritas. She orders a "Greyhound" Margarita - what the heck is that? Find out!

San Carlos Delight | ETM-Hilary Kemp Show 44

Hilary and Edward T talk food, sample the pleasures of San Carlos Grill and talk with Lauren Jorgenson, General Manager of the Bainbridge Restaurant.
San Carlos Delight

Hilary and Edward T take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island and take a quick walk through town to Madison Ave S. Why? Because they want to talk food, but more importantly, they sample the pleasures of San Carlos Grill and talk with Lauren Jorgenson, General Manager of the Bainbridge Island restaurant.

Lauren is a pretty "Irish Lass" who has a fantastic menu at her restaurant, plus we get to know her a little better. Then Edward T actually cedes control of the situation to Hilary and goes outside of his comfort zone to try new stuff, even the "dreaded" goat cheese. Does he like it? Find out!

This Is The Day | ETM-Hilary Kemp 43

This Is The Day | ETM-Hilary Kemp 43: Hilary introduces Edward T to a book called "Getting to Yes". Par to usual, he says no instead. Why this time?
This Is The Day

Hilary introduces Edward T to a book called "Getting To Yes", about negotiating with others and coming to compromise. ETM seems to think it's about getting others to bend to his will. Of course, he is wrong.

Hilary gives an example of using this strategy in relationships, and suggests this is the day his life may change if he uses this. She then asks ETM about negotiations in his marriage. ETM tells Hilary there was no such thing as negotiating in his marriage, which is why he was driven to the sauce.

The resultant flood of bad memories puts ETM in such a foul mood that he winds up telling Hilary that many people, in his opinion, are not worth his time and he just wishes these same individuals would go away and leave him alone.

This of course (like any sane person), surprises Hilary, and they get into a disagreement...

Believe It Or Not | ETM-Hilary Kemp Show 42

Believe It Or Not | ETM-Hilary Kemp Show 42: What you believe is based on the evidence you gather in your life, right? Maybe not. ETM and Hilary explore how this could be.

Time: 58:36

Believe It Or Not

There are some things you believe and somethings you don't. Somethings are absolutely true, and some are absolutely false, right? Maybe.

According to an article from the Boston Globe newspaper, our beliefs are not based in fact, but rather we pick the facts we want to keep in order support our beliefs. We do this to keep the "Cognitive Dissonance" to a minimum. The cog what?

Edward T and Hilary explore this concept through their own personal experiences. Could this be the fact, jack? Find out!
